The ACT Nutrition Support Service provides the following FREE services to ACT school canteens:

 

Canteen menu assessments

All ACT public school canteens will receive a free government approved menu assessment in line with the ACT Public School Food and Drink Policy 2015Catholic and independent schools participating in the Fresh Tastes program may also be eligible for a free menu assessment. 

Schools will receive a menu assessment report with:

  • feedback on areas that meet the requirements of the ACT Public School Food and Drink Policy 2015
  • recommendations to improve the menu in line with the policy
  • advice on how to modify specific products to meet the policy
  • a list of the foods and drinks available for sale at the canteen categorised into GREENAMBER or RED categories

School Canteens 

 

School Canteens can access the following services through the ACT Nutrition Support Service (ACTNSS): 

-          Menu reviews which include recommendations on how to ‘green’ the menu. 

All ACT public school canteens will receive a free government approved menu assessment by Nutrition Australia ACT in line with the ACT Public School Food and Drink Policy 2015. 

  

-          Free advice and support (website, telephone and email) by qualified dietitians.

Advice includes menu ideas, recipes and recommendations for suitable products to meet the National Healthy School Canteen Guidelines and ACT Public School Food and Drink Policy 2015 

  

-          Menu planning workshops  

 Canteen managers and volunteers can learn about healthy menu planning and how to apply the National Healthy School Canteen Guidelines in this two hour interactive workshop. Free to all ACT schools.  

 

-          Food safety supervisor training

This full day workshop prepares food safety supervisors to supervise and oversee day to day operations and prevent and recognise food safety hazards. Meets the requirements of Nationally Recognised Training.
