About Us

The ACT Nutrition Support Service (ACTNSS) is an initiative of Nutrition Australia ACT Incorporated. We are a Health Promotion Charity with deductible gift recipient status.

ACTNSS is delivered by a small team of Accredited Practising Dietitians, passionate about inspiring the Canberra community to eat well at all ages. 

Our dietitians are accredited by Dietitians Australia to ensure that the information provided to you is credible and evidence-based.

ACT Committee of Management

The Committee of Management is volunteer-based and currently has committee members with experience in policy, education, regulation, clinical dietetics, research and health promotion programs.

Gillian Duffy – Chair

Bachelor of Applied Science, Graduate Diploma of Nutritional Science, Master of Nutrition.

Gillian is the Chair of the ACT Committee of Management, and also represents Nutrition Australia ACT Division on the National Board of Directors. Gillian is a Senior Nutritionist at Food Standards Australia New Zealand. Gillian represents Nutrition Australia ACT Division on the National Board of Directors.

Allison Wood – Committee member

Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Laws, Graduate Diploma in Secondary Education, and Diploma of Nutrition.

Allison is currently undertaking a Masters in Ecological Public Health. Prior to this, Allison worked as a lawyer and senior policy advisor for the Australian government focusing on law reform and complex policy development and implementation within the Attorney-General’s portfolio. Along with Gillian, she also represents Nutrition Australia ACT Division on the National Board of Directors.

Kathleen Graham – Committee member

Kathleen has previously worked as a dietitian-nutritionist across clinical and community health settings, as a public health nutritionist at the regional level and in food and nutrition policy at the national level. Kathleen is currently engaged in a research capacity within the Epidemiology area of the Health and Community Services Directorate, ACT Government, where she helps manage several of the ACT’s child health survey programs.

Brad Tarrant – Committee member

Bachelor of Human Nutrition, Graduate Diploma in Nutritional Science, Master of Nutrition and Dietetics.

Brad has previously worked for ACT Health in the Community Care Nutrition division as the Nutrition Allied Health Assistant. Brad is now a Provisional Accredited Practising Dietitian after recently completing a Master of Nutrition and Dietetics at University of Canberra. Brad is fascinated with many areas of nutrition, with a particular interest in chronic disease management, nutrition and brain health, and health promotion. 

Jenny Sandilands – Committee member

Grad Cert in Human Nutrition; Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors; Master of International Law, Bachelor of Laws.

Jenny has a passion for public health nutrition, health promotion strategies and health equity. Jenny has worked for a Federal Senator, within the Australian Public Service, and at the Australian National University as an Advisor to the Vice-Chancellor. Jenny has two young children and is driven to inspire a new generation of kids who love food and cooking. 

Elizabeth Low – Committee member

Bachelor of Human Nutrition (Honours); Master of Nutrition and Dietetics; Master of Business Administration

Elizabeth is a PhD student in the Discipline of Nutrition and Dietetics in the Centre for Ageing Research and Translation, University of Canberra. Elizabeth undertakes sessional academic and clinical educator work at the University of Canberra. As an Accredited Practising Dietitian, Elizabeth’s main area of practice is in with older persons and persons with disability. Prior to commencing Nutrition and Dietetic studies Ms Low held management positions in the Australian Public Service across a variety of fields and federal government departments.


 

Scott Smith – Committee member

Certificate IV in Nutrition

Scott is a serving member in the Australian Defence Force working in various operational and strategic positions in Australia and Overseas with the Defence Force. Scott is intrigued by many areas of nutrition but is interested in health promotion in the community and Defence Force.

Ellas Ligdopoulas – Committee member

Bachelor of Science; Graduate Diploma in Science; PhD (Neurochemistry); Graduate Diploma in Nutritional Science

Ellas is in the final stages of completing her Master of Nutrition and Dietetics at the University of Canberra. She has taught at the University of Sydney and the Australian Catholic University, worked in nutrition policy at the Department of Health, and is currently with Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ). Her interests span all areas of nutrition, with a particular focus on the relationship between food, nutrition, and the nervous system.

Leanne Elliston – Public Officer

Bachelor of Science, Master of Nutrition and Dietetics, Accredited Practicing Dietitian

Leanne is the Chief Executive Officer of Nutrition Australia ACT Division, and represents the ACT Division on the Nutrition Australia National Board of Directors. Leanne has over 25 years experience in community, clinical and public health nutrition with a special interest in childhood nutrition.
